Gabe Lareau - Marching Illini

Gabe Lareau graduated in 2024 with his BA in English from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where he is also pursuing a MS in Science and Technology Journalism.

Gabe currently works as the Communications Specialist for the School of Molecular & Cellular Biology at Illinois. Before his position at MCB, he was the Communications Support Coordinator at the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County and a Communications Associate for the U of I Institute for Sustainability, Energy & Environment (iSEE).

Fall 2026 marks Gabe’s first season serving on the Marching Illini staff working with the B1G Flags section. Previously, he was the marching section leader for the MI Tenor Saxophone section and drum major at Moline High School. Gabe is also a 5-year member on the Drum Major Instructional Staff at Smith Walbridge Clinics: America’s first and finest marching arts camp.

When he’s not writing, editing video, or working with the Marching Illini, Gabe is most likely doing a crossword or reading a sci-fi novel, preferably with his two cats — Harvey and Princess Donut — on his lap.
